Understanding cancer cell reactions to mechanical stress : towards new magnetism-based therapies

Abstract : Magnetism offers a unique way to remotely exert local mechanical stimulation on biological cells thanks to magnetic particles and external magnetic fields. This induces very interesting cells reaction involving the cytoskeleton response to these stimuli. Experiments conducted on glioblastoma cells indicated very different reactions in 3D cell culture model versus 2D models  associated with geometrical and tissue softness differences. This question the classical preclinical modalities to validate innovative therapies. The observed anti-invasive effects can yield to new magnetism-based therapies possibly used in synergy with other therapies such as chemotherapy in the case of cancer. It comforts the arrival of physics in the theranostic field of cancer.

Biography : Biography : François Berger – MD, PhD – had a dual scientific and clinical education in the field of neurology, oncology and molecular and cell biology. He continues to have a dual clinical and research activity has professor of cell biology and neuro-oncology. He develops a translational research activity, trying to validate innovative technologies at the preclinical/clinical level in close collaboration with micro-nanotechnology groups. He is now director of the INSERM U1205-BrainTech Lab, associating INSERM-Grenoble University and Grenoble university hospital.
